Famous Dex stepped out of his comfort zone for his latest offering, securing a bucket list guest feature from the likes of A$AP Rocky.

The track, “Pick It Up,” was produced by FKi1st and Sosa808 and is slated to appear on Famous Dex’s forthcoming debut album, Dex Meets Dexter. While such a collaboration certainly is a good look for the Rich the Kid protégé, he shared during a recent conversation with Complex that working with Pretty Flacko helped open his eyes to a new style of co-creating, forcing him to slow down his usual creative process and really take his time in order to get the song to a new level of perfection.

“‘Pick It Up’ was something very different for me,” Dex explained of the track. “Especially getting ASAP [Rocky] on the record is a big, big look for me. It was kind of different. I did it, and it took time. I’m more of a freestyle rapper, and more of a new wave. I’m not like a Jay Z writer or a Nas, so I just go in there and do my thing. I go off energy.”

He also shared that the track absolutely wasn’t to his liking until A$AP Rocky added his signature touch.

“Zeke and Wayne [Famous Dex’s managers] could tell you, I didn’t want the song,” he continued. “They kept coming to me. I’m like, ‘I don’t like it.’ They played it again. Guess who is on there? ASAP Rocky. I freaked the f—k out. Oh hell nah. It sounded 10 times better and everything. It was a great, great look, and it’s a great, great record. It’s a great look for me and my fans. I feel like this record right here will show the world and everybody that I accomplished something. It’s hard to get a track with ASAP Rocky.”
