After SportsCenter co-host Jemele Hill was unjustly suspended by ESPN on Monday (Oct. 9) for “a second violation of our social media guidelines), hordes of journalists, viewers, and activists tweeted their support of her. One of those advocates was none other than J. Cole.

“Protect @jemelehill,” Cole wrote. The tweet has been retweeted some 34,000 times.

Recently, Hill has arguably been the most popular sports personality in the country. In September she tweeted that President Donald Trump was a white supremacist, spurning controversy and for White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders to suggest that ESPN fire her. But she stayed on the air, in part because her co-host Michael Smith and other black ESPN personalities refused to host SportsCenter in her absence.

This week, Hill was suspended for two weeks after providing commentary on the news that Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones told his players that if they kneeled during the national anthem, that they would be benched. Hill said that fans, instead of labeling players as sellouts for not protesting, should take matters into their own hands by boycotting the team’s advertisers. ESPN released a statement saying that Hill violated the company’s social media policy.
