ScHoolboy Q took to social media this weekend to explain that he’s a fan of up-and-coming rapper Lil Pump, and he doesn’t care what others may think of that.

His affinity for Lil Pump, who dropped his self-titled debut this past Friday (Oct. 6), has garnered in all sorts of criticisms in response to his SnapChat posts rocking out to the Floridian’s music, leading the TDE artist to speak up in defense of both the young rapper and his own personal music tastes.

“Ahh Q why you listen to Lil Pump?” he begins, using a mocking voice. “Cause b—h, I ain’t f—kin’ boring like you. I don’t listen to one style of music. N—s always in my comments when I play Lil Pump. N—a, I f—k with it.”

He then explains that if you don’t diversify the music you enjoy and listen to new things, you’re playing yourself.

“Look, my favorite rapper Nas, but if you think I just wanna listen to that style of music all day every day, you’re a f—kin’ idiot,” he adds. “That’s probably why you’re in the same spot you’ve been stuck at, ’cause your mind ain’t open to new s—t and different s—t. Stop judging people.”

As exemplified by Q’s past collaborations, not only does listening to a range of music styles improve your ear, it also can improve your art.
