With the nation stunned and in a state of mourning following the Las Vegas shooting massacre that took place this Sunday (Oct. 1), many are looking to gunman Stephen Paddock’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, to get some answers regarding his motive, as well as if she was involved in any capacity.
As previously reported, Danley was in the Philippines visiting her family during the time of her boyfriend’s attack.
According to CNN, Danley voluntarily flew back to the United States because she knew that the FBI and the Las Vegas police wanted to talk to her, adding in a statement, “And I want to talk to them. I will cooperate fully with their investigation. Anything I can do to help ease suffering and help in any way, I will do.”
In a statement, which was read by her attorney Wednesday (Oct. 4), Danley claims that she was completely left in the dark regarding what Paddock was planning.
“[He] never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of, that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen,” the statement reads.
According to Danley, Paddock bought her a cheap ticket to visit her family and later wired her money, which she claims was so that she could buy a house for her and her family.
“I was grateful, but honestly, I was worried that first, the unexpected trip home, and then the money, was a way of breaking up with me,” the statement continues.
Additionally, Danley’s statement denied that she had any prior knowledge or instinct as to what Paddock had been planning.
“It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone,” the statement adds.
At the time of this report, the investigation remains ongoing, with investigators hoping to find as many answers as possible, including figuring out what Paddock’s motive was. More on this story as it develops.
