Kendrick Lamar wouldn’t have gotten to where he is today without taking the sage advice of others to heart and into practice.

During the 2017 Forbes’ Under 30 Summit in Boston on Tuesday (Oct. 3), the Compton rapper spoke on exactly that, highlighting some of the wise words that Dr. Dre has shared with him over the years.

Lamar, who was recruited to speak as part of the event, shared that although he has already accomplished much, he is still a relatively new businessman and has much still to learn.

“You gotta continue to work, you’re gonna make mistakes along the way, but you have to ask questions,” the 30-year-old exclaimed, touching on a lesson he learned from Dr. Dre. “That’s something I’m learning now. I don’t know it all. I have to ask questions. I’m still fairly a new cat, as far as being a business man.”

Later on during the conversation, Lamar also shares his thoughts on Colin Kaepernick, adding that he is a supporter of the quarterback’s ongoing protest movement.

“He wants to stand for something,” he added. “Simple as that. You don’t look at the moment, whether it’s gonna work or not. No, you look at what the next generation is gonna receive from it.”
