Chicago rapper G Herbo dropped his long-awaited debut album Humble Beast last week to positive reviews. Featuring the likes of Bump J and Lil Uzi Vert, the album even received a shoutout from Chance the Rapper. G Herbo stopped by The Breakfast Club to speak about the album, him divorcing the streets, and why Chicago has the utmost respect for Chance the Rapper.

For his debut album, G Herbo asserted that he wasn’t concerned with chasing hit records, and instead he focused in on something more important to him: telling his story, and the stories of his homies. “I feel like my album is all my mixtapes in one and matured times 10. It talks about my life, what it took to get here, how I’m here now and how I want to elevate to do something else. I wanted my album to tell that story. And it had to be true to me,” he told Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee.

Herbo admitted that one of the most difficult decisions he’s made so far in life has been leaving the streets behind. He told The Breakfast Club that even though he had always been surrounded by good people that supported him and his success, he still was married to the streets. “I had a song with Nicki when I was 17, 18-years old, and I was still in the streets every day, outside on the block,” he unveiled.

During the interview, G Herbo even took some time to show some brotherly love to another Chicagoan putting on for his city. “Chance gets the utmost respect in Chicago and Chance has never been street,” he said. “It’s just how you reflect and give back to your city in different ways.”
