'Coming to America' sequel is real and there are directors attached

  /  09.29.2017

Almost three decades later after it initially became a smash hit comedy, Prince Akeem Joffe of Zamunda is prepping another trip — by way of a sequel.

While details are still in the works, the Eddie Murphy-starred comedy is getting a sequel and attached to the second installment are director Jonathan Levine (“50/50,” “The Night Before”) and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. The news was confirmed by Hollywood Reporter.

A new draft is being written by Barris, based on a script by the original film’s writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield. Although there is no current deal in place, Murphy is said to be involved in the development of the sequel and is also expected to star. Kevin Misher has been tapped to produce.
