Last year, XXXTentacion was charged with domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and witness-tampering. If convicted on all counts, the 19-year-old, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, would face 30 years in total. His trial was set to begin October 5.

However, Pitchfork has now reported that his trial has been delayed, and that there is currently no rescheduled date for the case. Instead, a hearing will take place on October 5.

A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office said both sides requested the postponement so that the prosecutor could set up questioning of defense witnesses, however, it is suggested in an update that XXXTentacion’s lawyer is to blame for the prolonging, saying:

“The prosecutor is ready to go to trial at any point. I cannot speak for the defense counsel. However, at this point, the defense attorney has not yet made the defense witnesses available for us to depose. The defense attorney is now indicating he’s not free for the taking of the depositions until late October or early November.”
