With a mentor like Christina Aguilera, 20-year-old Jacquie Lee has nowhere to go but up. Though the 300 Entertainment signee is carving a niche as a rising star in music, she’s also deeply passionate about fashion. Revolt caught up with the “California Dreaming” songstress to discuss how her personal style translates to her music.

What inspires your music?

Life, art, architecture and fashion.

How does it tie into your personal style?

Well I like old soul music, trap, R&B and hip hop. My personal style always has a modern take on an old school vibe.

How did you approach styling for your “California Dreaming” video?

I love that there is so much fusion in music, especially right now. I’m inspired by the mix of vintage with modern fashion; that’s the aesthetic I feel like my music represents. With that in mind I went for a modernized Jackie O’ look. The common thread in all of my videos has been my outfit. There are variations of it but as you will see the consistency of the fashion really helps frame the story and emotion.

How has your style developed over the years?

All the way through high school I had to wear a uniform. As soon as I graduated I moved to California. At the time, I really didn’t have anything but gym clothes, t-shirts and this one jean jacket. The first spot we moved to in California was right by Fairfax, which has a bunch of streetwear shops. It was so cool to live there with other creative people. It gave me a lot of reference to figure my style because the music scene influences the fashion world and vice versa.
