Donald Trump has been at the center of an onslaught of criticism regarding how he has handled Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, with Rihanna recently utilizing her platform to urge the president to take action.
Earlier today (Sept. 28), RiRi took to Twitter to address the president, as well as salute the five former U.S. presidents who have included their relief efforts to focus on Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“Dear @realDonaldTrump,” Rihanna posted, with the call-to-action since being retweeted over 100K times and counting. “I know you’ve probably already seen this, but I just wanted to make sure!”
The tweet, which includes a photo of the cover of the Daily News highlighting the ongoing crisis in the U.S. territory, concludes, “Don’t let your people die like this.”
Rihanna then took a moment to commemorate the five living former POTUS’ who have taken action.
“Round of APPLAUSE to these gentlemen for taking control of this devastating situation!!!” she wrote, reposting an article from CNN highlighting the efforts of Barack Obama, George Bush and more. “#CaribbeanGirl #OneLove.”
Rihanna’s messages have been echoed by countless celebrities, including Pitbull, John Legend, Common and more. JAY-Z’s TIDAL also recently announced it will be sending a plane to Puerto Rico, calling on fans to help fill it with supplies.
The president appears to have finally received the message. Earlier, Trump listened to such criticism, deciding to waive the Jones Act, which will help lessen the financial burden of transporting goods to Puerto Rico.
