Over a month after rumors first surfaced that both JAY-Z and Justin Timberlake were being considered for halftime performer of next year’s Super Bowl LII, Jigga has reportedly declined the offer (though the NFL denies that) and JT’s still in the running.

According to Us Weekly, Timberlake “is finalizing” his deal to take the stage at the championship game in Minneapolis come February 4.

Despite Justin and Jay’s history of camarderie and collaboration (“Suit & Tie”), a source told the site, “As of right now, it will just be Justin — no surprise performers.”

This is major (and unexpected) progress considering the pop-R&B singer’s history with the annual NFL game.

Let’s not forget that he is nearly the reason the term “wardrobe malfunction” now exists in our pop culture vernacular.. It was his performance with Janet Jackson during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, in which he tore her bustier open exposing her breast, that led to the Federal Communications Commission implementing a five-second broadcast delay during live performances.
