Donald Trump has been doing himself very little favors lately, most recently by way of expressing his opinions regarding the ongoing protest movement gaining momentum in the NFL. During a rally Friday (Sept. 22) in Huntsville, Ala., the president alluded to Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the national anthem, referring to the former 49ers quarterback as a “son of a bitch” who should be “fired” for “disrespecting” the flag.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has since taken to social media to offer his support to those in the NFL, explaining that POTUS has crossed a line for attacking the athletes who have followed Kaepernick’s noble lead to peacefully kneel during the national anthem, and in turn, take a stand against inequality, police brutality and oppression.

“I just want to send some blessings and some support to all of the players in the NFL,” Diddy says, during the minute-long message of solidarity. “My message to y’all — even though you ain’t asking, so please receive it because I rarely give ’em in this way — y’all got a chance to do something really, really, really, really, really great tomorrow.”

The entertainer and entrepreneur—who recently was named as one of Forbes’ 100 Greatest Business Minds and met yesterday (Sept. 22) with Congresswoman Maxine Waters to discuss hip-hop’s impact on the economy—then explains how those in the NFL have a unique opportunity to take a stand against Trump’s comments, pointing out that there is undeniable strength in unity.

“If y’all do whatever you do in unity, you can’t be stopped,” Diddy continues. “Just do the math, man. Do the math. Stick together and stand up for each other. Believe, we all we got. It has nothing to do with football, or business, y’all are our stars. Y’all represent us, y’all are our strong heroes. So, show that strength, please.”

The president continued to add fuel to the fire regarding the topic Saturday afternoon, adding on Twitter, “If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect…….our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU’RE FIRED. Find something else to do!”

The Commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, has even publicly commented on Trump’s remarks, referring to the president’s words as “divisive.”

“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture,” Goodell said in the statement. “There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”

Earlier in the day, Trump also continued his attack on professional athletes by focusing on the NBA and “withdrawing” his invitation from the Golden State Warriors to visit the White House, blaming Steph Curry’s “hesitancy.”

Curry has previously made his position clear that he would not be entertaining such an opportunity to visit the White House under Trump’s presidency, explaining that he does not stand for what the president stands for and would rather use the opportunity to inspire some change regarding what is tolerated in this country.

LeBron James was quick to vocalize his support of Curry’s decision to decline the invitation, referring to Trump as a “bum” in a now-viral tweet.

“Going to [the] White House was a great honor until you showed up!” King James included in his post, which has since been retweeted over 460K times.

Many are taking to Twitter to echo Diddy’s powerful statements against Trump, including A$AP Ferg and Insecure‘s Issa Rae, among others, with John Legend adding, “The White House is again urging the firing of people who exercise free speech to fight for equality and justice. Shameful.”

As more and more people continue to repost Diddy’s important message of solidarity and call to action on social media, it’s only a matter of time until we are able to witness just how wise his words are, that there truly is power in unity.
