Comedian Gary Owen talks his reality show, Kevin Hart on The Breakfast Club

Starting tonight (Sept. 21), Gary Owen will headline several shows at the famous New York City comedy club, Carolines on Broadway. As the comedian and star of BET’s docuseries “The Gary Owen Show” sat with The Breakfast Club this morning to promote his upcoming string of shows, he also offered his thoughts on the recent Kevin Hart scandal and fame’s effect on his family.

“I think honestly, he’s probably relieved because I’m sure this has been weighing on him for months,” said Owen, who applauded Hart for publicly apologizing prior to the details involved being fully leaked. The former “ComicView” comedian told The Breakfast Club trio that he believed that Hart will eventually find the comedy in what the Ohio native deemed an unfortunate situation. “The really went out of their way to set him up,” he said.

Owen also unveiled that Hart has been dealing with another unresolved issue. The Get Hard star lost a football bet to “Black America’s Favorite White Comic,” that he hasn’t coughed up the funds for as of yet. As proof that this wasn’t another joke, Owen allowed Charlamagne the God to read a text he sent to Hart regarding the friendly wager. “Oh yeah, you still owe me 2k from the Bengals vs Eagles game last year,” read the text sent between the two comedians.

Following the success of his reality show, “The Gary Owen Show,” Owen still lives in his hometown of Cincinnati, and was asked about the impact the newfound fame has had on his family. “I really don’t think there’s been one ounce of change,” he said with a laugh. “We live in Cincinnati. No one is bothering us.” He also noted that Dave Chappelle lives about 30 minutes away from where he, his wife Kenya, and their two children reside.

Gary Owen’s most recent comedy special, “I Got My Associates,” aired on the Showtime Network earlier this month. Those looking to attend the comic’s upcoming shows can cop tickets on the Carolines website. Watch The Breakfast Club interview with him below.
