Jhené Aiko is gearing up to flex the versatility of her creativity, this time focusing her talents on a new visual endeavor.
Taking to Twitter, the singer shared a new trailer, announcing that she has a new short film in the works. The film, titled Trip, was co-written by Tracy Oliver and will feature original poetry by Aiko herself.
Aiko previously worked with her boyfriend, rapper Big Sean, on a short film promoting their joint EP, Twenty88. Similarly, Aiko’s new visual will also be promoting new music, confirming her sophomore album will be titled TRIP 17.
The trailer teasing the new project doesn’t reveal too much of the storyline, but does reveal that Aiko will star, playing a character named Penny. The premise is still up for interpretation, with Aiko’s character being forced to make a major life decision.
During an interview with Playboy, Aiko shared the concept of her new album is, “inspired by every type of trip you could imagine: mental, physical, even psychedelic. I’m at a point where I put it all in the music. It’s a puzzle I want people to put together.”
While there currently isn’t a release date for the film, it’ll be interesting to see how it ties into the singer’s next album.
