Yesterday, news broke that actress Halle Berry and British music producer Alex Da Kid were dating after the two made it Instagram-official. They both shared the same black-and-white photo on their respective accounts, and then each nicknamed the other their “balance.” But, considering that Alex remains comparatively low-key in a time where more producers have been making moves to the forefront and that this is the first public sign of Berry dating since her 2015 divorce from actor Olivier Martinez, the news came as a shock to fans of both entertainers.

However, so Alex doesn’t get labeled as merely a boyfriend of Berry’s (though that is quite the feat), let’s recap the hits he’s quietly been behind. One glance and you’ll understand that he’s consistently crafted some of the most anthemic and emotional songs of artists’ careers, often garnering them some of their biggest and/or most-defining successes.

2010 | B.O.B., “Airplanes” ft. Hayley Williams (Co-producer, co-songwriter)

The second-highest charting single of B.O.B.’s artistry (following only behind “Nothin’ On You”), the Hayley Williams-assisted track saw international success, going No.1 in the UK, New Zealand, Scotland, Israel, and the Czech Republic (and No.2 here in the U.S.). Despite not being released as an official single, its Eminem-featured sequel would collect a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Collaboration.

2010 | Eminem, “Love the Way You Lie” ft. Rihanna (Co-producer, co-songwriter)

Delivering the rapper’s best-selling single of his career, the song nabbed five Grammy Awards including Record and Song of the Year and, after going 11-times platinum, earned Eminem the title of the first artist to earn two digital Diamond awards (paired with “Not Afraid”).

2010 | Diddy-Dirty Money, “Coming Home” ft. Skylar Grey (Co-producer, co-songwriter)

Quietly co-written by both J. Cole and JAY-Z (the latter of which co-produced the track alongside Alex), the Skylar Grey-guested song would become the short-lived band’s highest-charting (peaking at No.11 on the Billboard Hot 100) and most-successful (going double-platinum) to-date.

2011 | Dr. Dre, “I Need a Doctor” ft. Skylar Grey (Producer, Co-songwriter)

Collaborating with both Eminem and Grey again (see above), Alex would serve as sole producer on this cut, giving the longstanding veteran his second-highest peaking song ever (as a lead artist), following only behind “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thing” from nearly 20 years earlier. Upon going double-platinum, it would also become Dre’s most-decorated song, and earned Grammy Award nominations for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song.

2015 | Rihanna, “American Oxygen” (Co-producer, co-songwriter)

Though it didn’t make the cut for Rihanna’s ANTi—still, that’s not representative of its impact since neither “Bitch Better Have My Money” nor “FourFiveSeconds” did either—Kid sat alongside Kanye West to create this one-off, providing the framework for its eventual music video that would Rihanna call “one of the most important I have made to date.”
