On August 28, model, activist and DJ Munroe Bergdorf made history as the first trans model to front a L’Oreal campaign. Days later, Bergdorf was fired after one of her Facebook posts speaking out against white supremacy was taken out of context. Her nuanced stance on the events of Charlottesville and what lead up to it was something L’Oreal claimed didn’t align with its brand values.
