Dapper Dan is the face of Gucci's fall campaign

  /  09.11.2017

Remember when Gucci presented its 2018 Cruise collection this May?

Almost immediately, students of fashion noticed that creative director Alessandro Michele had taken some very pointed inspiration from iconic Harlem tailor, Daniel Day (aka Dapper Dan). While Michele later explained the collection was an homage to Day’s storied atelier – which dressed the likes of Mike Tyson, Rakim, LL Cool J and more – many people still felt outraged at the label’s perceived appropriation. Particularly because Gucci at one point actually sued Dapper Dan only to re-appropriate his designs 20-plus years later.

Well, in a case of Internet outrage gone right, the results have panned out in Dan’s favor. Not only is his now-defunct atelier set to re-open in Harlem with funding from Gucci, Dan will also front the brand’s fall cruise campaign.

And they say karma isn’t real…
