It’s been 11 years since Fergie dropped her multi-platinum solo debut, The Duchess. As she readies the release of her sophomore project, Double Duchess, the “Glamorous” singer visited The Breakfast Club to talk about her new music, MILFs, her rap skills, and The Black Eyed Peas.

During Fergie’s first sit-down with The Breakfast Club, she spoke on her forthcoming album’s delay. Scheduled for release on September 22, Double Duchess—which features guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and YG, as well as production provided by DJ Mustard, Polow the Don, Will.i.am and others—has been teased for years. It had been placed on hold due to Fergie launching a new label and having her son, Axl Jack, who contributes to the Double Duchess song, “Enchanté (Carine).”

Rumors of a Black Eyed Peas breakup have been circulating for years, but Fergie cleared the air by announcing that all was good with her bandmates. She admitted that though the hit-making group hasn’t broken up, she is taking time away from BEP to focus on her solo endeavors. “It’s just that you can’t do everything at the same time,” she told DJ Envy and Angela Yee.

“I’m not claiming I’m a rapper, but I’m a singer that raps because I like it,” said Fergie, who credits MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim and Salt-N-Pepa with inspiring her. The “London Bridge” performer claimed to be responsible for writing most of her raps, but admitted that she’s not one of those artists that feels like she must write everything she recites. It just has to feel organic.

The Dutchess also discussed strip clubs, dodged questions about her involvement with the upcoming season of American Idol, and spit a verse from Too $hort’s “Don’t Fight The Feeling” in her first interview with The Breakfast Club. You can watch the full interview above.
