Jordan Peele and Spike Lee to join forces for new thriller 'Black Klansman'
The film is based on the true story of police detective Ron Stallworth.
Hollywood better get start getting ready because a momentous and massive collaboration is about to flip the script.
According to Hollywood Reporter, legendary filmmaker Spike Lee has a new film in the works, with the news he will be teaming up with Jordan Peele adding to the excitement.
As reported, the two will join forces for a film titled Black Klansman. The movie will follow the true story of Ron Stallworth, an African-American police detective who infiltrated the KKK back in the late 1970s and will be adapted from Stallworth’s own memoir of the same name. In 1978, Stallworth answered an ad in the local newspaper seeking new Klan members. Once he gained membership, he worked his way up the ranks and became the head of the local chapter in Colorado Springs, using his position of power to secretly sabotage several cross-burnings and other criminal activities the extremist hate group had organized.
Lee and Peele have been quietly working on the film for at least two years now, with no current word on when production will officially begin. Peele, who made his directorial debut earlier this year with the record-smashing Get Out, will co-produce alongside Lee, who will serve as the thriller’s director. Denzel Washington’s son, John David Washington, is reportedly being considered for the lead role, with the rest of the cast to be announced at a later date.
Needless to say, the two filmmakers combining their creative powers is absolutely epic, with the film representing a historic partnership between two different generations of Black filmmakers. The fact that the pair will be working on a socially conscious film adds to the power of their decision to join forces on this particular project, with the past works of both directors sparking all sorts of necessary politically and racially charged conversations. With our nation currently experiencing a Trump presidency, to say the very least, it goes without saying that such a film will be arriving at a very fitting time for our culture.
