Fashion Week has established a reputation for being somewhat pretentious. Everyone lines up their best outfits, puts on their shades, and purses their lips as if they were Anna Wintour herself. However, VFiles brings an entirely different energy; as they have grown, they’ve shown vested interest in creatives and supporting the community that helps their business thrive. The brand and its store makes all of its guests feel included. Unsurprisingly, their show is just as coveted as the rest because they really know how to get people talking.

Last night’s (September 6) show began with a powerful speech from Joey Bada$$ projected on the bare white walls of the garage at the Barclays Center. He spoke of injustice and his views of the world today, which is parallel to that of the VFiles’ voice. Shortly after, Migos’ Offset arrived in a yellow Lamborghini and parked it right in the middle of the floor. After a few puffs of what smelled like the loud, he took his seat and the show commenced. Models circled to and fro around the car in garments hand-selected by the VFiles staff.

Every year, VFiles uses their social following to cast a net for new designers and models. This year, they added a special treat by pairing each new designer with an industry mentor such as Dapper Dan and Khloe Kardashian. As a designer, that experience is priceless. At the end of each collection it was apparent that each designer felt their creativity celebrated as audience members stood in awe (and applause) of their work.

Considering the youth of this brand, which just turned five years old, and the youth culture that supports it, it’s safe to say that VFiles owner Julieanne Quay is on the pulse of a youth quite like we’ve never seen before.
