Michael Jackson's 'Bad' By the Numbers

  /  08.31.2017

When asked about releasing a feverishly anticipated follow-up to an album like Thriller, Michael Jackson answered, “I feel rejuvenated.”

Since 1982, the pressing question on nearly everyone’s mind was whether or not it was humanly possible to follow-up an album already considered the best-selling project of its era. The answer to this remained up in the air for about four and a half years. But on August 31, two days after Jackson’s 29th birthday, the world received yet another tour de force from the King of Pop.

At 10 tracks (11 on the CD version), Jackson’s Bad proved him undeniable. Adding more hits to his collection (“Bad,” “Man in the Mirror,” “The Way You Make Me Feel”) and pushing his level of accomplishments to new heights (No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for six weeks), the album is a statistical masterpiece.

In honor of Bad turning 30 today (August 31), REVOLT dissects Jackson’s 1987 classic by the numbers.
