The 2017 MTV Music Video Awards this past weekend (Aug. 27) sparked an onslaught of conversations surrounding various social issues such as body-shaming, diversity, racism, suicide, immigration and more. Cardi B used her airtime during the show to shout out Colin Kaepernick, and the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s support didn’t go unnoticed.

“Thanks so much @iamcardib,” the currently unsigned athlete tweeted, along with a clip of the rapper’s shout out. “I appreciate you supporting the movement and @yourrightscamp.”

In a night that saw Cardi B rapper playfully clear up rumors of an engagement to Migos’ Offset and perform at the pre-show, she also became the latest celebrity to stand with the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

“Colin Kaepernick, as long as you’re here with us, we’re goin’ to be standin’ for ya baby!” Cardi said at the end of one of her televised Q+A sessions. “That’s right, I said it.”

Kaepernick has found himself at the center of debate and controversy, following his decision to boycott the National Anthem last year. Many fans in support of Kaepernick and his movementargue the football player is being blackballed by the NFL due to his personal views, with his mission to combat racism remaining unwavering.
