Adrien Broner talks McGregor v. Mayweather racial controversy on this week's 'Drink Champs'

“None of [their trash talk] is fake.”

Throughout his career, Adrien Broner has been called a habitual line-stepper for crossing the boundaries of what you may call ‘microphone etiquette’ when doing interviews or cutting promos for his boxing matches. However, during the recent publicity campaign for Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor’s upcoming August 26th fight, Broner said the Irishman was way out of line with his racial remarks.

“That’s bullshit. He took it too far. You tripping,” Broner said as this week’s guest on Drink Champs, specifically noting McGregor’s use of the word “monkeys” when referring to Mayweather and his Money Team. The European striker also taunted, “Dance for me, boy.”

“None of it is fake,” Broner said of the trash-talk between Mayweather and McGregor. “None of it is set up. You got McGregor being himself and Floyd finally finding somebody who’s as outspoken, or more outspoken, than him. Floyd never fought anybody that was as outspoken than him. Shane [Mosely] ain’t gonna get up there and say half of the shit McGregor gonna say.”

Mayweather himself also expressed disdain for McGregor’s racially-charged jabs.

“I just didn’t like when he called us ‘monkeys,’” Mayweather described to Stephen A. Smith in a sit-down interview on ESPN’s First Take. “I think that was totally disrespectful. Yeah, he called us ‘monkeys.’ I didn’t like it. I just thought about all our different leaders—Martin Luther King, Malcolm X—that went on the front line for me and my family and all my loved ones and, like I said before, this stuff still goes on.”

Broner admits McGregor can hang with Money Mayweather on the mic, but what about in the ring? Hear Broner predict his winner, share his mindset while facing 57 years in prison, and reveal why we should take him seriously as a rapper this Thursday at 10pm ET on Drink Champs on REVOLT TV.
