In the aftermath of violent white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, Va., the city of Baltimore has quietly removed four Confederate statues in the dark of the night.

The removal process reportedly began at 11:30 PM Tuesday (Aug 15) and was finished by 5:30 AM today (Aug. 16).

This comes after the Baltimore City Council voted unanimously Monday (Aug. 14) to immediately remove their Confederate monuments following the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville on Saturday (Aug 12) that left three people dead (one counter protester and two law enforcement officials) and dozens injured.

Some took to twitter and posted pictures of the removal of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson’s memorials, as well as the Roger B. Taney Monument. The two other confederate monuments the city council voted to remove include the Confederate women’s monument in the city’s Bishop Square Park and a monument for Confederate Soldiers and Sailors on Mount Royal Avenue.

The statues will not be destroyed instead some will be reportedly be moved to Confederate Cemeteries.
