Solange deleted her Twitter account last night (August 15) after posting a final message that attempted to rally support behind Takiyah Thompson, a woman who was arrested that same day in relation to taking down a Confederate monument in Durham, North Carolina.

Thompson’s move follows this past weekend’s publicized and polarizing protest in Charlottesville, Virginia where alt-right groups protested the removal of a statue of Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee during a rally that turned violent, leaving one dead and 19 injured.

Solo wrote, “deleting my twitter soon, but before I dip when are we gonna pull up ? & what we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free?”

However, even after deleting her account, Solange continued to voice her opinion via a note shared on her Snapchat account.

The singer denounced and mocked members of the aforementioned alt-right groups, while admitting that she struggled to remain positive and was concerned about her son’s education.

She wrote,

“been trying to study myself. been trying to practice self preservation during this time and not give racist, ugly ass, fuck bois who reek of citronella my energy so that I can preserve my spirit to perform this album. fuck white supremacist. fuck nazis. fuck your stale ass, bland ass monuments. fuck asking folks to be graceful. my son’s first day of school has been in the midst of seeing these bullshit images that still tell him this system was built to be against him. how mofos supposed to have a fresh start with education, seeing this shit? thinking about demanding he not be required to take ‘American History’ because its deep dark rooted ugliness continues to live right now, right before our eyes.”
