The masterful Dave Chappelle continued his sold-out August residency at Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday night. This time, he had some mystery to the proceedings. In every show, Chappelle has shared the stage with at least one powerhouse act, giving the fans double what they bargained for.

Chris Rock, The Roots, Lil Wayne, Erykah Badu, Ice Cube, and Usher are just a few names on previous bills who Dave has enlisted to rock the stage so far. Last night, after Chappelle performed over an hour of comedy on stage, the legendary comedian finally revealed his special guest: Kendrick Lamar.

Everyone immediately rose to their feet and applauded. Some people were absolutely stunned at the high-caliber surprise. A short film hyping the appearance of “Kung Fu Kenny” played on a big screen onstage, behind Lamar’s band. “Kenny studied the muthafuckin greats,” the screen read.

The man Rolling Stone magazine recently dubbed “The Greatest Rapper Alive” came out wearing all red garb that stuck to the kung fu flick motif. “DNA” kicked off the set, which was followed by “ELEMENT” and To Pimp A Butterfly hit “King Kunta.” During the latter, snippets of the 1933 film “King Kong” played on the screen. Most of the audience would stay on their feet for the remainder of K. Dot’s hour-long set.

Cheers followed Kendrick’s remarks about wanting to get into Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.

“OK, I do got a few day ones here,” he beamed.

“Swimming Pools” and “Backseat Freestyle” came back to back, with an audible undercurrent of screams from audience members shouting “Martin had dreeeaaam” and “Kendrick had a dreeeaaam.” He would perform the crowd favorite “m.A.A.d city” toward the end of his set.

After a tease of “YAH,” “PRIDE” started Kendrick’s second half. Kendrick rapped while hanging sideways, suspended in the air.

“LOYALTY” came later with the Compton superstar rhyming both his and Rihanna’s parts.

Kendrick had plenty of people rhyming with him on the finale “Humble.” With a large portion of Radio City sticking around to hear his no. 1 Billboard chart-topping lyrics, Lamar unleashed his furious hit.

Chappelle returned and told the crowd, “the future of hip-hop is in good hands.” As for America itself, Dave wasn’t quite so sure.

“Trump may save the country, if he dies it’ll be an accident,” Chappelle said during his stand up routine earlier in the night. The famed funny man also touched on the recent marches in Charlottesville, Va. by the KKK and Nazis. “Fuck the white supremacists,” Chappelle said, garnishing cheers.

Chappelle has a lot more shows coming to Radio City. His run doesn’t end until next week. Lauryn Hill, Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino and Solange are a few acts scheduled to perform with him.
