An incident from February 2017 between New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley, Madison Square Garden, and Knicks owner James Dolan security seems to have finally reached a temporary conclusion.

Oakley is reportedly officially banned from Madison Square Garden for one year after accepting a plea offered by Assistant District Attorney Ryan Lipes, stemming from an incident while attending a Knicks game back in February. The former New York Knick was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault, one misdemeanor count of aggravated harassment and one misdemeanor count of trespassing following a run-in with MSG security.

Those charges will be dismissed if Oakley stays out of trouble for six months and stays out of the Garden for one year.

Oakley was offered and rejected a similar plea deal in early June. When asked why he took this one, he reportedly said to ESPN “… As long as I beat the case, I know I wasn’t wrong. So why keep wasting time? There’s better things [to focus on]. Let’s try to get the streets better.”

Shortly after the incident, James Dolan implied that Oakley had issues with alcoholism and anger management – comments that drew criticism from players and fans.

Alex Spiro, Oakley’s attorney, said his client “will be pursuing all civil remedies against Mr. Dolan based on this incident.”
