For the last few years the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar has highlighted entertainers that have found success at the intersection of music and fashion with its Icons portfolio. The Weeknd joins the esteemed list that has included Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, while also landing the cover of the magazine.

In the September issue the Canadian singer talks about his infatuation with Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight film, admiring the fashion choices of hip hop icons Puff Daddy and Nas as a kid in Toronto and his appreciation of mystery. “I’m not in a rush to let people know everything about me,” he tells the magazine. It seems like he’d rather focus on the thing that made people interested in him in the first place: music. “Luckily, the only thing the world demands of me is music,” he goes on to say.

Other icons highlighted in this year’s issue include artists such as rapper Travi$ Scott, singer Dionne Warwick and country crooner Miranda Lambert, and models like Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and Candice Swanepoel. They were photographed by famed fashion photographer, Brigitte Lacombe, wearing high-end brands like Gucci, Saint Laurent, Dior, Givenchy, Chanel and Jimmy Choo.

The brainchild of Harper’s global fashion director, Carine Roitfeld, the annual Icons fashion portfolio is in its fourth year of presenting a mashup of current and past icons in fashion and music. “From rock to hip-hop, classic to country, and electric to soul, this unique group of Icons is about diversity,” said Roitfeld, who calls the Harper’s celebration of music and fashion “important to the world today.” The celebration culminates with the Icons party, which is scheduled to take place September 8th at The Plaza Hotel. The Weeknd is set to hit the stage at the event.

Look out for The Weeknd, as well as Travi$ Scott and others in the September 2017 issue of Harper’s Bazaar when it hits stands August 22.
