Kanye West’s longtime friend and creative confidant, Virgil Abloh will soon add designer for the New York City Ballet to his lengthy list of recent fashion accomplishments.

The founder of high-end streetwear brand Off-White has been tapped to craft a costume for this year’s New York City Ballet fall gala.

This is kind of like a big deal, to say the least. The annual event attracts the likes of fashion designers, celebrities, and socialites. Past NYCB exhibitions have featured works presented by the founders of Opening Ceremony and creative directors of Kenzo, along with Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Kenzo, Thom Browne, and Carolina Herrera, with guest lists comprised of names like Alicia Keys, Martha Stewart, Jennifer Hudson and many others.

The brainchild of Emmy Award-winning actress Sarah Jessica Parker, the fashion gala has since its 2012 debut, been pairing some of the ballet world’s top choreographers with fashion’s elite to create unique and innovative pieces for the iconic ballet company.

The part time DJ’s dance partner will be Gianna Reisen. The 18-year old, recent graduate of City’s Ballet School is also the youngest dancer to ever choreograph for New York City Ballet. Contributions from designers Fernando Garcia, Laura Kim, Tsumori Chisato and Jonathan Saunders will be presented alongside Abloh’s.

Kanye West wasn’t playing when he told us that ain’t nobody messing with his clique. Abloh isn’t the only member of Mr. West’s inner circle that has made strides on the fashion front as of late. Don C has continued to make moves with his Just Don brand, and just like Abloh designs his own Air Jordan sneaker.
