R. Kelly was trending for much of Monday after Buzzfeed published a damning story that had families alleging him of leading a “cult” of young, of-age women as sex slaves. Now, the singer/songwriter has released a denial through his attorney.

“Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him,” said attorney Linda S. Mensch, said in a statement obtained by LA Times. “Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.”

The statement follows a Monday morning story from Buzzfeed that alleges Kelly of housing legally-consenting women in properties he rents, where “controls every aspect of their lives: dictating what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records.” The story also says that he verbally and physically abused the women. Reporter Jim Derogatis – who has covered the singer for nearly two decades, since breaking the infamous sex tape in 2000 – spoke to parents, former R. Kelly employees, and police reports for the piece.
