Lil Wayne has been fighting to get his album Tha Carter V released for years, but fans were treated to a pleasant surprise with new music from the YMCMB head this week.

A timeline of Lil Wayne’s infinitely-delayed album, ‘Tha Carter V’

On Wednesday night (July 5), Wayne used YouTube to release a pack of four new songs. The drop sees him collaborating with the likes of Young Jeezy and Mike WiLL Made-It on “Fireworks,” Gudda Gudda on “Loyalty,” and perhaps most notably, a freestyle over Playboi Carti’s “Magnolia.”

In an Instagram post announcing the EP, Weezy spoke to his fans about the project.

“I’m STILL trying to fight for my independence but today I’m saying Fuk [sic] it and giving all my fans some new music!” Wayne wrote. “Thanks for being there and patiently waiting while I endure this fight.”

The release of Tha Carter V follows Wayne continuing to perform shows like the Rolling Loud music festival, and appearing on DJ Khaled’s no. 1 hit “I’m The One.” T-Pain also released his and Wayne’s lost T-Wayne album, and DJ Drama has hinted at the impending release of Dedication 6, another installment in his and Wayne’s lauded Dedication mixtape series. Birdman, despite his prolonged legal battle with Wayne, has maintained that Tha Carter V will still see a formal release.
