It’s no secret that a beef between former besties, brothers, and business partners JAY-Z and Kanye West has been brewing for some time now.

Last year, ‘Ye’s onstage rants during his eventually-cancelled Saint Pablo Tour revealed, among other things, that “there will never be a Watch the Throne 2” and that Jay still hadn’t called Yeezy after his wife Kim Kardashian’s traumatic Paris robbery. And, last week, JAY-Z used his anticipated 4:44 to seemingly respond to ‘Ye’s barbs–most notably, the self-introspective claim: “You gave him $20 million without blinking / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was you thinkin’?”

There has now been another development in their battle.

According to TMZ, West is leaving TIDAL over a financial dispute. (Remember that he was announced as one if its famous co-owners back in 2015.)

The site reports that West is claiming that TIDAL owes him over $3 million, a total comprised of two things: a bonus he was supposed to receive after his The Life of Pablo album netted 1.5 million new subscribers to the streaming service, and reimbursement for music videos.

However, TIDAL is claiming ‘Ye never delivered the aforementioned videos required by the contract.

The report says that Yeezy’s lawyer sent a letter to TIDAL declaring that the company was in breach and the contract was terminated; and that TIDAL responded with its own letter declaring that Kanye was still under exclusive contract with them and that they’d sue if he went to another streaming service.

Before we all begin to assume that ‘Ye’s decision to leave has to do with the jabs heard on 4:44, TMZ reports that the move “predates the release of Jay Z’s album.”

Additionally, TMZ has reported that Kanye is done with all exclusive album releases and streaming deals entirely because “he wants to avoid what happened on Tidal: too limited access for far too long.”

They added that sources said, “When Kanye does drop new material, he plans to make it available on as many music platforms as possible … so more people can listen as soon as it’s released.”
