Fabolous has always represented his stomping grounds of Brooklyn, New York City, and this weekend his hometown showed him love back.

In a Sunday (June 11) ceremony, Fabolous received the key to Brooklyn from borough president Eric L. Adams. He was also inducted into the Celebrity Path, where his name – John “Fabolous” Jackson” – was scribed into the grounds of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Friends like rapper Paul Cain and Roc Nation executive Lenny S. both used their Instagram pages to show love to their comrade, who earned his stripes through DJ Clue mixtapes before building a nearly 20-year career of hit songs and revered mixtapes.

Iconic artist Jean Michael-Basquiat was also awarded the key posthumously. Members of the family accepted the honor on his behalf.

When the news was announced in March, Fabolous released a statement to XXL.

“I feel honored to be inducted into Brooklyn’s own Celebrity Path and receive a key to the city in June,” Fabolous said. “Along with the accolades and citation I was presented with last week from Borough President Eric L. Adams, I am grateful to be recognized by my hometown for my contributions and to receive the borough’s highest honors.”
