Last year, G.O.O.D. Music’s Kacy Hill admitted that Kanye West, who signed her to the label in 2014, didn’t necessarily have a say in the music she created for her just-announced debut album, Like A Woman.
Speaking to Complex, Hill said then:
“I’ve just been kinda doing my own thing. I want to make sure that the work that I do is infallible before I get someone else involved, so I’m not working with Kanye or Pusha [T] or anyone on my music. That’s kinda like my baby and I want it to be perfect before I can have anyone else tell me what to fix.”
But an extra cosign can’t hurt, especially when it allows you your own artistic expression, and reports are now claiming that ‘Ye has indeed executive-produced the LP.
According to Pitchfork and Pigeons & Planes, ‘Ye has taken on the title. If you recall, he was originally in place to do the same for Rihanna’s ANTi but stepped down to work on his own projects.
Also, it was previously shared in a letter posted to Hill’s official website that her “mentor” West can be credited with inspiring her to be more revealing on the project. It read:
“West’s advice caused Hill to make some serious changes in her sound and her story as an artist. She began focusing more on her voice, letting the melody lead the track, and writing from the parts of her heart that she had previously kept close.”
The singer recently released the video for the album’s title track (produced by DJ Mustard, Terrace Martin, and DJDS) and in the NSFW clip, Hill can be seen pleasuring herself on a public bus before slipping into imagined sexual fantasies.
‘Like A Woman’ is due June 30.
