Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G.’s long-awaited husband and wife duet LP The King and I was released today. The project comes just two before what would have been the late mic maestro’s 45th birthday.

Close musical family members including Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Lil Kim, and Lil Cease are among the guests on the LP, but the project shines brightest when hearing the back-and-forth between the former spouses. While Biggie’s appearances on the long-play have been culled from his previous work, The King and I does give you a brief glimpse into the feel of a joint effort between Evans and the deceased King of New York.

“I don’t really have a favorite song on The King and I, but there is a song that totally represents the spirit of the album,” Evans told REVOLT TV recently in Brooklyn, N.Y. It’s called ‘Legacy.’ It was produced by me and Stevie J. It’s saying: Who knew any of this would be what it is? But you have left a legacy in so many ways. I’m super excited, as you can tell.”

The timeless singer said she thought about doing a duet LP with Big quite some time ago, but it wasn’t until a couple of years back during a conversation with her attorney that she decided to pursue it.

“I took a meeting with the people that acquired the masters and they were very interested in it,” she said. “I’m very proud of what that idea became. I’m excited for people to hear it and kinda receive a creative expression of our love. I’m happy to now be able to celebrate the great things we remember and talk about and laugh about Big. I feel his legacy is what it should be although his passing was something we didn’t expect.”
