Kendrick Lamar has crafted gems with seminal producers like Dr. Dre, Pharrell, and The Alchemist, and fans learned this week that he has also worked with the legendary DJ Premier.
When a fan asked Premo when he would make a record with K. Dot, Premier tweeted that he had already worked together – the songs just didn’t make the final cut of DAMN., Kendrick’s latest album.

“I’m sure one day it’ll happen…we worked on a couple joints but they didn’t make the album,” Premier tweeted. “That’s family so it’s all good.”
Premier has made plenty of minimalist, stripped-down cuts, so his sound could have been a strong fit for the direction Kendrick took with _DAMN.” But with Kendrick’s penchant for performing unreleased material on the big stage, and actually releasing cutting room floor gems with last year’s untitled unmastered, there may be hope that the songs may eventually see the light of day.
