Dr. Dre teases HBO Documentary series "The Defiant Ones" with Jimmy Iovine

  /  05.12.2017

HBO announced last year that it had a documentary series coming to tell the story of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s partnership, and the Head Doctor announced the release date this week.

In an Instagram post, Dr. Dre announced that “The Defiant Ones” would premiere on HBO on July 9, 2017. The four-part series was filmed over three years by director Allen Hughes, best known as one of the Hughes Brothers who directed the revered film Menace II Society. It will tell the stories of Dre and Iovine’s individual lives, and their eventual partnership for Interscope/Aftermath and Beats By Dre.

Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Cube, Bruce Springsteen, Kendrick Lamar, Bono of U2, and Gwen Stefani – who all have worked with Dre and Iovine – will appear in the documentary through interviews. The doc is also set to feature behind-the-scenes footage of early studio sessions from N.W.A. and Eazy-E.

Part one of the documentary will premiere on July 9, with the other three parts continuing each day through July 12.
