Kehlani fans received abrupt and unfortunate news last night (May 8) when the singer came out and cancelled her show in Grand Rapids, Mich., before even beginning. Taking the stage in casual attire, Kehlani spoke through tears and a trembling voice as she admitted to concertgoers that she felt “crazy” and as if she needed “to go to the hospital.”
She said:
“I can’t sit up here and not give you guys the show that is not [inaudible]. If that means that, out of my pocket, that I have to refund or have to reschedule, then that’s what I have to do because I truly feel like I might have to go to the hospital at this point because I feel crazy. And I’m so sorry, but I came up here and I promised my team that I would try, I would try to do a good show for you. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m really sorry. Let us know if you need to be refunded, I’ll take it out of my pocket and we’ll reschedule. I put that on everything. We’ll make this show happen again, but I need to go do something about this because I feel crazy.”
Taking into consideration Kehlani’s publicized attempt at suicide last year and advocacy for mental health thereafter, many fans wondered and worried about Kehlani’s well-being, but the star took to Instagram to silence assumptions of anything more than her simply being exhausted.
In a video posted to the social platform, the singer addressed the news, telling viewers that she was just sick. She said:
“So, I’m not sure why blogs are reporting that I had a mental breakdown and I’m checking myself into a hospital but I’m mentally fantastic. Physically, I need a lot of rest. And I’m resting up all day today to finish my tour off and do my concert in Detroit. My entire bus got really sick, it was really cold on here. And I just need a lot of rest. As far as spreading rumors about my mental health, that’s very sensitive and something that shouldn’t be messed with, but I’m doing great. And, physically, I just need to rest. And I love you guys. Thank you.”
She reiterated her message in the video’s caption, writing, “Physically tour is EXHAUSTING and people get sick all the time.”
She then took to Instagram again to explain that the Grand Rapids show had been rescheduled and that she’s back on track after battling the flu.
She wrote:
“back on the road tomorrow after I beat this gaaahdamn fluuuuu!!! Fuckin love y’all!! Grand Rapids show being rescheduled to top of next month , if you was there last night you know the real, fuck all that noise. Detroit I’ll see you tomorrow night for another beautiful sold out show on the SweetSextSavage Tour. S/o to the real!! 💪🏼 #SSSTOUR #SSSTOUR unstoppable.”
