On Friday (May 5), MTV hosted the 2017 College Signing Day featuring former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.
With this being the fourth consecutive year that the former FLOTUS has celebrated College Signing Day, she made sure to bring some big celebrities out for the 200 hundred high school students in attendance. While the star-studded event was led by Nick Cannon, actors, singers and athletes including Jidenna, Questlove, Charlamagne tha God, Robin Roberts, Bella Hadid, Victor Cruz, and many more stopped by to add to the positive energy that adorned New York City’s Public Theater.
Although all of the celebrities shared words of encouragement, as well as some of their personal stories about their college journey, nothing prepared the soon-to-be college attendees for Michelle Obama’s thought provoking speech.
“You’re going to be the next leaders of tomorrow, so don’t ever get discouraged, remember this day,” said Mrs. Obama. “Take the spirit take all this energy, bring it with you as you go on and go off to do great things.”
College Signing Day celebrates high school seniors who’ve made the decision to pursue higher education at a community college, professional training program, or a four-year college or university. While Mrs. Obama held this advantageous event Friday morning, more than 1,000 college signing events are being planned in every state by communities who support the movement.
Mrs. Obama will also share the importance of higher education and College Signing Day on social media as she is encouraging everyone across the country to post photos of themselves wearing their college apparel with the hashtags #CollegeSigningDay and #BetterMakeRoom.
