Many fans of Lil Wayne have likely lost hope for Tha Carter V, but Weezy insists that the album is still on its way.
While concluding a show in Dallas, Tx. on his Kloser 2 U Tour this weekend, Wayne announced: “C5 coming soon, fuck Cash Money. It’s the Roc!” He then threw up the recognizable Roc-A-Fella dynasty hand sign, shouting out his ally Jay Z.
Fans have been ready for Tha Carter V since 2014, when the cover art was officially unveiled and Wayne said it would be his final solo album. But the album has been pushed back multiple times, leading to uncertainty about its release. Things are even murkier with Wayne suing Cash Money Records and its CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams for $51 million, with the suit including money Wayne says that he is owed for having completed and delivered Carter V for its eventual release.

Wayne recently announced at a show in April, “it’s the Roc. I’m a member of that team now.” His manager later clarified that Wayne wasn’t signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label, but instead was a partner with his Tidal streaming service. In an interview with Skip Bayless, Wayne said he was “still working on” a deal with Roc Nation, and that Jay Z was a friend who is “gonna help me in any way he can,” presumably referring to his feud with Birdman.
Birdman has said Carter V is “definitely coming out,” and Martin Shkreli has said that he bought the unreleased album. Hopefully, Wayne’s announcement in Dallas has some weight to it, with his supporter hearing the album soon.
