DMX has battled drug addiction for years, and he has reportedly checked into rehab to take another stab at conquering his demons.
TMZ reports that DMX voluntarily checked himself into a treatment center on Thursday night, after encouragement from his manager Pat Gallo and his ex-wife Tashera Simmons. X performed at the Ruff Ryders Reunion Show in Brooklyn last weekend, but he postponed three concert dates due to what his representative called a “medical emergency.”
DMX has battled drug addiction for years, with the condition leading to multiple issues with the law and lapses in his rap career. At his peak, X became the first rapper in history to release two number one albums in the same year, with It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood – both topping the Billboard 200 in 1998. He’s still regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time.
“It is important right now that he take some time off to focus on his health so that he can be a better father, friend and entertainer,” said DMX’s manager Pat Gallo in a statement. “We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of concern and support that has poured in. We ask that you please keep X in your prayers as he embraces your support.”
