After giving fans a scare last year by announcing she’d quit music following the delay of her debut album, SZA finally confirmed the project, titled CTRL, was coming during a Jimmy Kimmel performance of its stunning lead single, “Drew Barrymore.” She even shared a release date.
Granted, that date proved not to be true, but TDE President Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith eventually said himself that the LP was on its way, so fingers crossed.
Plus, his words are easier to believe now that SZA has shared “Love Galore,” a track she teased back in January during a New York City showcase.
Just moments after dropping the new, Travis Scott-assisted single, she shared its visual, too. On the track, SZA sings over a soundbed of long-drawn, organ-like chords punctuated with echoed percussion:
“Why you bother me when you know you don’t want me? / Why you bother me when you know you got a woman? / Why you hit me when you know you know better?”
In the clip, the man she appears to be challenging is Scott, himself. The two first share intimate moments in bed and adorned in butterflies, but the fun seems to take an eerie turn when she ties the rapper up and slaps him in a way he doesn’t appear to agree to.
Soon after, SZA allows a mysterious woman into their apartment and the clip closes with her rocking in a chair covered in blood. You can guess what happened.
