Chance the Rapper felt like Pablo during the kickoff show for his 2017 tour.
The Chicago rapper launched his first show of his extensive trek at San Diego’s Valley View Casino Center and wowed the crowd with a flurry of gems from his mixtape trifecta 10 Day, Acid Rap and Coloring Book. But in addition to playing a majority of his tunes, Chano also took some time to jump into some cuts from Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo.
Granted most of these tracks happened to already feature standout performances from the man of the hour, but that didn’t deter Chance from paying homage to his mentor while creating a moment for the house. He played “Ultralight Beam” and gave fans a treat when he performed his alternate version of the Chris Brown-featured “Waves.” Last year, the “No Problems” rapper shared a demo of the track during an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1. For added measure, he also belted out a rendition of “Father Stretch My Hands.”
