We partied hard at Weekend 1 of Coachella with our very own REVOLT House, but here’s what you missed Friday (April 21) of Weekend 2.
TRAVIS SCOTT
Though the rapper was reportedly criticized for a lackluster performance last weekend, he more than made up for it on Friday night. Not only did at least one fan get carried out of the pit during his set, another climbed a tree for a better view above the crowd. It seemed no one wanted to miss the moment he mounted a giant mechanical eagle.
FRANCIS AND THE LIGHTS
A friend to hip-hop, as he appeared on Chance the Rapper’s “Summer Friends” and was able to recruit Kanye West himself for his own “Friends” music video, Francis and the Lights brought Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon on to the stage to perform “Thank You.” Vernon is also a friend to Yeezy, having collaborated on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’s “Monster” and “Lost In the World,” and on Yeezus’ “Hold My Liquor” and “I’m In It.”
STORMZY
Despite performing in the mid-afternoon, during the peak of the heat, UK rapper Stormzy still managed to encourage energy from the crowd as they sang along with his somewhat odd version of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You.” Keeping true to his genre, however, the lyricist also performed his hit “Big For Your Boots” in an effort to get the stateside audience familiar with grime.
MAC MILLER
Fresh with material from the sonically-surprising The Divine Feminine, Mac fused rap and electronica, with a rock rhythm section, as his girlfriend Ariana Grande watched on.
PHANTOGRAM
2017 marked the band’s third visit to Coachella, after appearing twice as their own duo and once as Big Grams, their collaborative project with Big Boi. After admittedly spotting a Kardashian sister at last week’s set, the band returned to the Outdoor stage with their blend of alt-rock and electronics.
