Kendrick Lamar is having the best week ever.
Aside from his epic showing at weekend one of Coachella and attaining record numbers for his critically-acclaimed new album, DAMN., Kendrick Lamar is closing out this week with unarguably his best album review yet.
Taking to Twitter, Kendrick shared an endearing text from his mother, Paula Oliver, who congratulates him for what she believes is his “best” album yet.
The hilarious message comes as Kung Fu Kenny’s DAMN. is slated to arrive on top of the Billboard 200 next week with estimated sales of 610k copies. That would make it the year’s fastest-selling LP, beating first-week sales for Ed Sheeran’s divide album, which sold 350,000 copies. But first-week sales aside, K. Dot’s DAMN. is poised to be a topic of conversation for the rest of the year. Between conspiracy theories and endless album breakdowns, the LP is arguably his most calculated yet.
When asked about his intention behind the making of his albums, Kendrick told Zane Lowe this week that he wants his music to “live further than two weeks.”
“I want it to live for the next 20 years. You have to listen to it over and over and over and over again to fully understand the direction and the message,” he shared. “I want to challenge the way you think, and the way you take in music.”
