Like they always do around this time, the 13th annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival has announced its star-studded lineup and new schedule.
Instead of being one weekend, this year’s extravaganza will go down July 10th through July 16th, featuring a series of events and performances.
DMX will headline the bill this year at the finale concert on July 15th at Brooklyn Bridge Park, along with fellow Ruff Ryders The LOX. Adding to this bill are Niambi Sala and Thandiwe aka OSHUN, and an exclusive guest DJ set by Mister Cee and legendary DJ duo Stretch & Bobbito. They will all be joined by Festival house DJ Rob Swift, in addition to hosts Uncle Ralph McDaniels and Torae returning.
Just one day before the finale concert, the BK Festival will host a performance by Dreamville’s Bas, Cozz, and Omen at St. Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO. A “Brooklyn’s Finest” art gallery will feature art celebrating Brooklyn Hip-Hop curated by The Bishop Gallery. Another exclusive photo exhibition with industry vet Sickamore will document the creative process.
Festival founder and executive director Wes Jackson will kick off the festivities on Monday, July 10th, with the legendary Rakim as a part of his ‘Told It First Hand’ series at The Brooklyn Historical Society. According to the festival, this will mark “a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen, learn and build with arguably the greatest Hip-Hop MC of all time.” Rakim is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the seminal album, Paid In Full.
