Months after Just Blaze and Swizz Beatz squared off for a beat battle that put hip-hop culture on full display, two more legends are preparing to do the same: Pharrell and Timbaland.

In February, fans were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience when Just Blaze and Swizz Beatz had the type of beat battle that rap fans dream of. Both legends squared up in an undisclosed location, spinning their classic catalogs back and forth for more than two hours while Hot 97’s Ebro Darden hosted. Swizz Beatz made fans – memorably, a stank-faced Busta Rhymes – go even more nuts when he played an unreleased song that featured DMX, Nas and Jay Z. (Watch below for an excerpt from REVOLT TV.)

Now, it looks like music heads will get another treat. Just Blaze tweeted that he spoke to Timbaland, and that a battle between him and Skateboard P was in the works.

“Just got off the phone with @Timbaland,” Just said. “He said he’s down for Tim vs. Pharrell and they just talked about it. Wooooooo!” Maybe it’s more than a coincidence that on Saturday, Timbaland posted a throwback photo with Pharrell and Swizz Beatz.

Just Blaze added that he would love if Chad Hugo, the more elusive half of the Neptunes production duo, came by to join Pharrell.

“Tim vs. Neptunes would be the real deal. If @ChadHugo showed up I might shed a tear,” he said.

The battle would literally be history in a room, with both artists having more than 20 years worth of producing some of the biggest, most important movements in the history of rap and R&B, working with everyone from Aaliyah and Missy Elliott to Snoop Dogg, Jay Z and Beyoncé. Timbaland and Pharrell also have history working together: the two Virginia natives used to be in a group called Surrounded By Idiots, and they teamed up for Justin Timberlake’s breakthrough album Justified. Timberlake said last year that he has been in the studio with TImbo and Pharrell to work on new music, and he shared a photo with them in March.

It’ll be great to hear Pharrell and Timbaland team up on Justin Timberlake’s new album, but a beat battle would be history in its own right.
