Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, T.I. honor 2Pac at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

Tupac Shakur was larger than life as one of greatest rappers of all time – and when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday night, he was given an induction fitting of his legacy.

Snoop Dogg gave a brilliant induction speech at Friday night’s Rock Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony for his deceased friend Tupac Shakur. Taking the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Snoop described Pac not just as the “Greatest Rapper of All-Time” but a revolutionary but Gangsta, humane and loving person. A “strong black man” who impacted culture and inspired listeners. Dogg yelled “Thug Life” at the end of the speech, and then it was time to get to the music.

Alicia Keys took over the stage, sitting at the piano and singing a medley of some of Pac’s most signature classics. “Ambitionz Az A Ridah” proceeded “I Get Around,” which was followed by “I Ain’t Mad Atcha.” Keys closed with “Dear Mama” and Singing “Changes.” A huge screen hung in the back of the stage, with images of Shakur playing into the celebration.

Snoop returned to the stage, this time with YG for “2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted” then Naughty By Nature’s Treach came out for “Hail Mary.” T.I.’s cover of “Keep Your Head Up” was the grand finale as Tip wore a bandana and jeans with a waist covering leather vest that looked like a replica of the vest Tupac wore when he was on the famous cover of the New York Times magazine with Snoop and Suge Knight over two decades ago.

Tupac enters the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year with fellow inductees Joan Baez, Nile Rogers, Journey, ELO, Yes, Pearl Jam and Journey. The ceremony airs on HBO on April 29.
