Isaiah Rashad wasn’t listed in Top Dawg’s 2017 line-up of TDE releases, but he had one of last year’s best releases. And if some tweets today are any indication, he’s staying in the studio.
Late Monday night, TDE’s Chattanooga, Tennessee representative dropped two videos that appeared to preview new music. He accompanied those drops with a promise.
“No more projects every two years. I’ma hang with y’all for a while this chapter,” he said.
Fans are likely ecstatic to hear that. His late 2014 debut Cilvia Demo was brilliant and distinctive, but he disappeared for two years while battling depression and drug addiction. He emerged from the shadows last year with The Sun’s Tirade – a pensive, soul-baring record that made many Best of 2016 lists. He just wrapped his Lil Sunny Tour in the U.S., and is currently on the road in Europe.
According to TDE head honcho Top Dawg, this year of 2017 is dedicated to releases from Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock. And with the label’s success, especially their prosperous 2016, it’s tough to bet against him. But it’s good to know that Isaiah Rashad doesn’t plan to spend more time away.
