Its been almost four years since Pusha T announced the title to his upcoming sophomore album, King Push. The year was 2013, when he revealed the boastful label and at the time, the G.O.O.D. Music rhyme-slinger was already prepping the arrival of his debut, My Name is My Name. Fast forward to now, Push sits with not only two albums under his belt (MNIMN and King Push – Darkest Before Dawn), but a new job title (president of G.O.O.D. Music) and role as a social activist fighting for criminal justice reform. A lot has happened and changed over the course of four years, but the one thing that has remained constant is the preparation for that long-awaited album, King Push.
Over the weekend, Pusha dropped into Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener’s OTHERtone show on Beats 1 Radio (April 2) to discuss the gestating release and revealed some new details. “I’m working on my album right now, it’s titled King Push,” he said of the album.
“I just left Pharrell yesterday, so I’m just waiting on him to give me these last couple heat rocks,” he added. According to Push, he gave the LP a listen with Desiigner as the two were in the studio recently.
When talking to REVOLT last year, the rapper described the listen as a step forward from 2015’s King Push: Darkest Before Dawn. “Darkest Before Dawn, that was something I really wanted to get off my chest to set the tone the way that I feel like my fans like to hear my music,” he said. “King Push on the other hand, I have to say that it has a few more colors. Little bit of diversity and y’all gonna check it out soon.”
Since then, the rapper dropped three records behind the project including “Drug Dealers Anonymous,” “H.G.T.V.,” and “Circles.”
Stark, dark and menacing, the records collectively add color to what fans should expect on King Push. Further relating that message, Pharrell described the upcoming project as “crazy” during the interview. “”The album is crazy. It’s definitely crazy,” said P, before calling it “something gargoyle-ish.”
No word on when a release date will arrive, but once again, the wait for Pusha T’s King Push continues.
